So if you've got a trailer hitch on your Subaru Forester and you're wanting to start pulling trailers with it, first off, you will want to check with your owner's manual, see what your vehicle's capable of pulling. And then second off, you'll want to add four-pole wiring. The four-pole wiring is gonna give your four lighting functions, which are going to be your stop and turn signals and your running light signals. That's going to safely transfer from the back of your vehicle to your trailer lights to let others know what your intentions are when you're going down the road. more

Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2015 Subaru Forester- Video
Welcome to etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins trailer wiring harness here on our 2015 Subaru Forester. The 4-pole trailer wiring connector is gonna help our vehicle provide the necessary lighting functions to keep us safe on the road to our trailer, our left turn, our right turn, our running lights, and our brakes to help us stay DOT compliant. A lot of trailer wiring harnesses out there on the market, you're gonna have to run a separate power wire all the way up to the front of the vehicle to connect to the battery. With the Hopkins wiring harness, we don't have to do that, because there's already a towing prep package port right behind this panel here on the Subaru. With plugging into the factory prep package port on our vehicle, we also have an inline module that's gonna protect our vehicle from any back feed from our trailer's wiring system, so that way if there's a problem on the trailer, it does not affect the lights on our vehicle. more

If you do have it stored on the inside, like our customer does today, it's still really easy to get to to use. Just open up your hatch. If you lift up our floor covering, it's actually stored right here in the compartment, so that's nice and out of the way.Whenever you're ready to use it, you simply just drape it across the threshold. more

One thing I think is pretty cool about this wiring is that you can actually mount it outside permanently next to your hitch, or you can actually keep it on the inside of your Subaru out of the weather and out of the elements. Our customer today has chosen to keep it stored on the inside. It's still going to be really easy to use and get to, if you just lift up your floor covering, actually just keep it balled up here in the storage compartment. Now with it being on the inside, whenever you are ready to use it, all you have to do is simply just drape it over your threshold here and anywhere along the threshold, where there is a rubber seal is fine, other than one area. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2019 Subaru Forester- Video
Today on our 2019 Subaru Forester, we're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the Curt T-connector, Vehicle Wiring Harness, the four fold flat trailer connector.Our wiring's going to give us all the proper lighting functions to safely tow a trailer. Both turn signals, our brake lights and our running lights. We're going to have three amps per circuit for our stop and turn signal, six amps per circuit for our tail lights, and it's going to be compatible with five, six and seven volt adapters.One of the nice thing about this wiring is it's going to have a converter box, and what that converter box does, it protects the factory wiring on the vehicle from any back feed if the trailer wiring has an issue. It's also going to come with a nice disc cover, it's going to help protect your connections from any dirt and debris.As far as the installation on this wiring, it's very simple. It's going to plug directly into a factory wiring that's located in the back of the vehicle. First thing we need to do is we need to remove all of our floor coverings from the back of the vehicle. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Subaru Forester, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118467.Here's what our wirings are going to look like once we have it installed. It is going to give us a four-pole flat trailer connector, and it is going to stay on the inside of the car at all times. Now, it is going to have an included dust cap that is permanently attached, and it's going to provide us all the lights required by law to get down the road when we're towing our trailer, such as our tail lights, turn signals, and even our brake lights.Now, when we're not towing, and we're not using our wiring, we can simply open up our hatch, and our wiring is actually going to store right in this compartment right underneath our floor covering. The nice part about having the wiring on the inside is that we're not going to have to worry about any of the elements getting to our wires or corroding our connection points.Now, our wiring is a custom wiring kit, so we're not going to have to cut or splice into any wires on our Forester. We're just going to have one panel that we're going to have to remove right here and there's going to be a plug back here that our harness is going to plug directly into. Now, our wiring kit does come wiring everything needed to get it installed, including the converter box to take our signal from our car and send it out to our trailer, as well as an included fuse and fuse holder to protect our vehicle, and the wiring from any kind of back feeding or any other kind of issues that may arise.Now that we've seen the end result of our wiring and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. more

It is going to provide us the 4-pole flat trailer connector, and it's going to give us all the required lights to get us down the road safely, such as our tail lights, turn signals, and our brake signal. It's going to have an included dust cap cover, which is going to keep all the dirt and debris and grime from getting inside our connector, because our wires are going to stay on the outside of the vehicle at all times.Now one thing Hopkins did do to help prevent any kind of damage to the wires, since it is going to be on the outside, is they put this protective coating on it, which is going to help keep the wires damaged from either sun rays, or any kind of moisture or anything else, that the elements would cause damage to our wires.Now our wiring is going to be a simple plug and play installation. We're going to have one port right behind this panel right here at the back of our vehicle that it's going to plug directly in to. It is going to have a converter box, so it's going to get all the right signals from our vehicle and convert them over to a working signal on our trailer.At the same time, that converter box is also going to protect our vehicle from any issues that may arise in the trailer end. Now since this is a custom wiring kit, we're not going to have cut or splice any of our factory wires. more

Here's what our wiring is going to look like, once we have it installed.It's going to give us a 4-pole flat trailer connector and it does come with a dust cover. Now this is going to provide us with all the lights we need for our trailer such as our tail lights, turn signals and stop lights. Now whenever we are ready to tow, we're going to drive our wire out our hatch. That's going to be right here by our receiver tube.Now when we're not towing, we can open up our hatch and as you can see, the seal here is going to protect our wire so we're not going to damage it when we do close it when we're using it. When we're not using it, we can simply just lift out the floor covering and store it right here by the spare tire. more

It's gonna have a nice dust cap to keep all the dirt and debris out and Hopkins went the extra mile here and to this thing on the outside they added this nice coating to go over the wires to help protect them a little bit. Now it's gonna provide us all of our signals, such as our taillights, turn signals, and brakes to get down the road safely when we're towing our trailer.Now that we've see what it looks like let's go ahead and show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation we're gonna open up our rear hatch and we're gonna need to remove all the floor panels. Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Subaru Forester- Video
Today on our 2008 Subaru Forester, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number is 118461. Now, when ready for use we're going to pull our wiring out, whatever length that we're going to need to make our connection. Soft rubber gasket there is going to give us the protection that we need, and we can just simply close the door right on top. Make our connection back here with our trailer and we're going to be good to go there. When not in use, simply tuck it away, keep it in our storage compartment there. That way it won't be mixed up with all of our other tools and storage area. I like putting it down here in the bottom, personally. Here's our 4-pole flat trailer connector. more

Here's what this wiring is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, we've got access to it from underneath the cargo area here. That's where it's stored away when not in use. In order to do that, you can take it and simply bundle it up in here, right down in there so it's out of your way and you've got full use of your cargo area without needing to worry about damaging that wiring. When you're ready to use it, you just pull it back out and then you can close the trunk. You want to make sure to avoid the latch area so that it doesn't pinch the wiring. more

Today on our 2017 Subaru Forester we're going to be taking a look at and installing the tow ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118467. Here's what this wiring is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see we've got access to it from underneath the trunk here. When it's not in use it's easy to tuck it away inside the trunk so that way it maintains a nice, clean look when not in use, but it's also very easy to access whenever you do need it. Now with this wiring one of the nice things is that with the way it's set up, it plugs directly into the vehicle's existing wiring system instead of having to put T connectors behind the tail lights and then run it down. This way it's a lot simpler and a lot more straightforward. more

Today on our 2013 Subaru Forester, we're going to show you the Curt T connector vehicle long harness with a four portal flat trailer connector. Part number C56040. What this wire harness does, is it takes battery power that comes from this red wire right here, the signals from the wires come into the box, or a module and then as soon as it is copied, then it goes out to your trailer. This will protect your vehicle wiring harness from any shorts or damage from the trailer wiring. The parts that you get are the wire harness here at the module and the fort that fits into the vehicle. It also has a fuse holder which comes complete with a fuse. A very nice long length of four pole wire and this is our four pole end right here. It also comes with a cap. more

Today, in this 2015 Subaru Forester, we're going to show you part number 118467. This is a T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four-pole flat trailer connector, from Tow Ready. First, I'll go ahead and show you the components. This end here will fit a factory port that's already installed in the vehicle from the factory. We have a fuse holder for its own fuse. This is the nodule. This actually takes its signals from the car and converts it down from a five wire system on a car down to a four wire system on a trailer. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Subaru Forester- Video
Today on our 2011 Subaru Forster, we'll be installing the Curt T Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C56040. Now to begin our install, we'll first go ahead and open up the rear hatch. Then we'll take the spare tire cover from the rear storage compartment and set it aside. Next we'll remove the center storage compartment, which will just lift up and remove. Remove the carpeting panel here on the drivers side, and then the storage compartment on the drivers side. The storage compartment on the drivers side has two push pin fasteners that will secure it in position. To remove them, we use a flat bladed screw driver or an interior trim panel tool to pop each fastener off. more

Today on our 2009 Subaru Forester, we'll be installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C56040. To begin with, we'll need to go ahead and raise the rear hatch of the vehicle. Then we'll go ahead and remove the rubber cover or the rubber tray that sits in the back of the vehicle. Well also need to remove the Styrofoam cover that's just above the spare tire as well as the carpet that covers the spare tire. All of this can be lifted out and set aside. The final piece that we'll need to remove is the Styrofoam section that's just to the left of the center tray. That'll be on the driver's side. To remove this though, there are two push fasteners that we'll need to remove. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Subaru Forester 118467- Video
Today on our 2013 Subaru Forester, we'll be installing the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector. Part number 118467. We'll now go ahead and show you how to use a new 4-pole connector. You simply take it out of the rear cargo area and run it out of the hatch and down to the hitch 00:00:17 or accessory. However, as we route it, we'll make sure we stay away from the rear cargo latch as pinching the wire in the latch can damage it. However, the weather stripping is thick enough that it won't. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2015 Subaru Forester C56040- Video
Today on our 2015 Subaru Forester, we're going to install part number C56040. This is a Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. To get access to our wiring, we need to get inside the vehicle, so we'll open up the back hatch. Our wiring harness is going to be located along this panel right here, so we need to go ahead and remove the floor coverings and some panels as well so we can get behind this. Now these push pins can be a little bit finicky, but we use a trim panel tool to catch the edge right here and pull it up, and then snap. Next this threshold will have to come off, and rock it with steady pressure if you grab the edge here and pull up on it, then it'll pop loose. Now there's a couple of catches here, so I have to push it forward a little bit to release it. more

Today in our 2014 Subaru Forester we will be installing the Curt custom fit vehicle wiring harness with four pole flat connector, part number C56040. To begin our install we will first open up the rear hatch and then remove the center cargo cover. Next we will go ahead and remove the center tray section. On the driver's side we can remove the corner carpeting and then the corner tray section. To remove the corner tray we'll need to remove the two push pin fasteners first. Next we'll remove the carpeting here on the passenger side, then the passenger side cargo tray. To remove it, we'll need to remove the two push pin fasteners that secure it. Next we will remove the threshold. more

Today on our 2003 Subaru Forester we're going to install the Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118461. First we'll need to access the rear cargo area. Then we're gonna open up the access to the spare tire. Alright, next on the passenger's side we're gonna go ahead and remove the spare tire tools and there's a fastener here to remove this panel. This exposes us to the rear trailer connector that we're looking for. So this application is been wrapped in blue tape. more

Then we're going to open up the access to the spare tire. Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Subaru Forester 118467- Video
Today working on a 2011 Subaru Forester, were going to install a Tow-Ready T-One Connector part# 118467. Go ahead and remove the cargo cover, were going to remove the center foam tray and the driver's side foam tray to access the wiring underneath. And you see it gives us access to the manufacturer's trailer wiring. Now we can take our new Tow-Ready Connector and plug it into the manufacturers connection port. With our port connected we need to mount our converter box, we'll peel back the cover of the two-side adhesive and mount it to the sheet metal. Were mounting it to the sheet metal make sure you've got a good flat clean surface. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Subaru Forester 118467- Video
Today on this 2009 Subaru Forester we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118467. We are at the rear of the vehicle and the port that we are going to need to plug our wiring harness into is located inside the cargo area underneath the floor board over here on the driver side of the vehicle. We are going to need to remove quite a few pieces to gain access to the port. The driver side styrofoam has a few retaining fasteners holding it in to position. To remove those you can either use a flat headed screwdriver or you could use a rivet removal tool. 00:33 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2001 Subaru Forester- Video
Today we are going to install part number 118461 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this part on a 2001 Subaru Forester. The connection points are inside the vehicle, in the rear, so we have to get inside the rear hatch and start pulling up the floor panels. Our connection point happens to be right here, underneath the threshold on the passengers side. You just pull it out. It has got the blue tape on it. And our T-connector will simply just snap in place, like so. And all that remains is to go ahead and attach the Modulite to the back of the sheet metal here. You can put it just any place you want but it seems pretty convenient and out of the way right here. And we can zip-tie our wires to the existing wire package here, and they will be safe and out of the way. Now we did not really have to take out the spare tire, but it gives you a better idea of what is going on. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Subaru Forester- Video
Today we are going to install part number 118461, we will be using this on a 2007 Subaru Forester. The first step involved with installing is taking off some of the interior panels and getting down to the floor. So we have to get down to the bottom where we can see the wiring and well trace it back to find the connector. This panel comes off first, followed by the panel underneath, and then this panel comes up. Now we have gotten to our wire harness, now we need to find the connector. Once we find our harness, well follow that back to the tail light as the instructions say, you look around and here is the plug right here. As a note this plug can be found on different models and years possibly further up here towards the front. You could also find them on the other side, just check the instructions before you start. more
